How It Started

Thompson & Timber began with a renovation.

My wife and I were replacing an old rusty metal mailbox post and wanted something that matched the updates we had made to our home. We searched for weeks and finally found a design we both loved - only to have the order canceled.

That was the turning point.

With the woodworking and contracting experience my dad had, we decided to build our own. What started as a single project quickly turned into something more. As we worked through the design, we realized how difficult it was to find this style anywhere else. There was a gap - and we knew we could fill it.

That first build became the foundation of Thompson & Timber.

Why We Build

A mailbox is often the first thing someone sees when they approach a home.

It should feel intentional.

When someone chooses one of our posts, they’re not just buying wood and hardware - they’re investing in curb appeal, permanence, and pride in their home. We want it to be something they enjoy seeing every day when they pull into their driveway.

Not something disposable. Not something temporary.

Something that completes the exterior.

Materials & Standards

We build using weather-resistant cedar and pine selected to handle harsh Utah conditions. Contact-treated posts ensure long-term stability in the ground, and every finish is applied with weather-resistant paint or stain.

Trim sections are built from SmartSide treated engineered wood, rated for moisture, UV exposure, and seasonal shifts.

Steel house numbers and an optional solar cap light are included with every order. Every material is chosen with longevity in mind.

Family & Legacy

Building these mailbox posts allows me to combine creativity with craftsmanship. I enjoy refining the designs, experimenting with new color combinations, and improving each version from the last.

What started as a project between my dad and me has grown into something I hope to build long-term - and eventually continue with my son, Haze.

Thompson & Timber isn’t just about selling products. It’s about building something meaningful with family, something that carries forward.

Every Post, Built by Hand

No two orders come off an assembly line. Each post is cut, assembled, and finished individually before it ships. What you see in that image is the result of a process that does not change regardless of how many orders are in the queue.

What It Means

These mailbox posts are more than a product.

They become part of someone’s home - a piece of it that stands outside every day, through every season. They represent the hours of work put into building something by hand and the pride a homeowner feels knowing it was designed with care.

Not mass-produced.
Not imported.
Built intentionally.

Thank you for being part of our story - and for choosing something made to last.
